Week of September 14, 2009

The name of our reading story is Penguin Chick. We are studying subjects and predicates of a sentence. We are also studying homophones, synonymns, and antonymns. We are concentrating on main idea and story details.
We have two ongoing writing assignments. The topics are My Family and President's Obama's Speech.
In Math we have been studying rounding. We will be concentrating on money this week also. We will continue with our addition facts quizzes.

Week of 8-31

This week we are reading Dear Juno. The story will help us focus on context clues, main idea, and inferences. We will be writing paragraphs about our family. This will be our first page in our scrapbooks. If the students have any pictures of family members that they would like to include in their books they are welcome to bring them in.
In Math we are studying place value and we will begin rounding at the end of the week. Students should also continue studying their math facts.
In Social Studies we are concentrating on map skills.
During Science class we are studing matter in it's three forms: solid, liquids, and gas.

Our First Lessons

During the first week of school we will concentrate on building our class community. Our assignments will include ways for the students and the teacher to learn about each other. This will promote a positive learning environment. The students will also learn the rules and policies of their new classroom.
